Swanagemap

The superstition that Friday the 13th is unlucky for some came to fruition when Swanage Lifeboat Station received their first rescue request of 2012 to assist ‘Bobby’ the dog who had fallen from the cliff near Old Harry Rocks, Swanage.

Bobby’s owner could hear him yelping from the top of the cliff and had sensibly called the Coastguard for help rather than attempting to negotiate the dangerous terrain to reach him.
Portland Coastguard asked for the volunteer Coastguard from Swanage to assist. However, Bobby had fallen to an area that was inaccessible by foot so the inshore lifeboat was asked to help with recovering the distressed dog.
The Swanage lifeboat was quickly on scene and two crew were put ashore to check Bobby over. He was alert but shocked and was reluctant to move. Not knowing the extent of Bobby’s injuries ,the crew carried him into the lifeboat and took him to South Beach, Studland, where his owners and the Coastguard were waiting. The Coastguards then took him to the local vets surgery where he was assessed and then taken to Wareham for further treatment.
