At 14.37hr on Sunday 17th July 2016, Aberdeen Coastguard requested the launch of Seahouses Inshore Lifeboat, to a report of persons in the water at Holy Island Causeway. A car and motor cycle were believed to be on the bridge there near the refuge box. It was half an hour after high tide.
The Inshore Lifeboat was launched and made best speed to the causeway. The Holy Island Coastguard Rescue Team had also been mobilised, and were able to get the people to safety as the tide was receding quite quickly. The Inshore Lifeboat was not required, and was stood down as it approached the scene, and returned to station.
None of the people involved required any medical assistance. The incident was controlled by Aberdeen Coastguard Operations Centre, due to the high volume of incidents being handled by Humber Coastguard Operations Centre at Bridlington.
