At 13.17hr on Sunday 5th June 2016, Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Seahouses Inshore Lifeboat to go to the assistance of two persons in the water, in difficulty crossing the burn at Holy Island. The tide was rising, and it was to be a very high tide today.
Seahouses Inshore Lifeboat was launching when the Coastguard cancelled the launch, as further information had been received that the two persons had managed to get safely ashore. Seahouses Lifeboat Operations Manager commented, “This was not a waste of our time, if someone is in difficulty, it is essential to dial 999 immediately and inform the Coastguard, so that the various rescue services can be mobilised quickly. It was a very high spring tide today, and the unwary could easily be caught out. We would far sooner be called then cancelled, rather than delayed when it may be too late to help. It all underlines our safety slogan of ‘RESPECT THE WATER’. We are pleased the two got ashore safely.”
