A member of the public called the Coastguard on 999 when they became concerned for seven swimmers just off Avon beach.
The volunteer crew from Mudeford RNLI were paged at 1.24pm and were on scene within 6 minutes. The group of swimmers had, by this time, made their own way back to shore. The crew onboard Mudeford Servant ascertained that initially four swimmers aged 12 and 13 had gone out to sea and had got into difficulty when they realised they were out of their depth. They then swam to the nearest yellow buoy whilst three of their friends went out to them with a body board and helped them get back to shore.
Southbourne mobile coastguard unit met the swimmers at the lifeboat station to ensure that they did not require any further assistance
