– Drowning prevention charity comments this group is at risk but may not realise it
The UK’s drowning prevention charity is warning those that walk or run near water to be aware of potential risks, as this group accounts for the largest proportion of UK drownings.

Exmouth RNLI tow fishing boat back to safety
Brixham coastguard tasked the Exmouth’s all-weather lifeboat, Margaret Jean at 1.48pm on 21 May. A fishing boat with fuel blockage was adrift 17 miles south east of Straight Point with two men aboard.
Strong Storms Over Oklahoma
This image of the storm system that generated the F-4 tornado in Moore, Oklahoma was taken by NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument aboard one of the Earth Observing System (EOS) satellites. The image was captured on May 20, 2013, at 19:40 UTC (2:40 p.m. CDT) as the tornado began its deadly swath.

Assist Craster Inshore Lifeboat while
The Craster ILB
At 20.15hr on Monday 20th May 2013, Humber Coastguard telephoned Seahouses Lifeboat Operations Manager, and advised him of a situation at Craster. The Craster Inshore Lifeboat had been carrying out an exercise with shore based Coastguard Officers, one of whom was on rocks acting as a casualty. Th Craster ILB had suffered an engine problem, and in accordance with standard safety procedures, the crew had beached the boat at Embleton, while they attempted to remedy the fault. While the coastguard officer “casualty” was in no danger, there was some mild concern for his welfare.

Invited guests who attended an event at Exmouth lifeboat station on Thursday 16 May had the opportunity to see the RNLI crew volunteers in operation. The 15 guests had visited the station as part of a ‘Special Visitors Day’ to hear about how their support helps the charity to save lives at sea.
Sunderland RNLI volunteers save vessel from sinking
Lifeboat volunteers from Sunderland RNLI Station were this morning (Sunday 19 May) diverted from a training exercise to save a vessel which was at risk of sinking after being dragged from its moorings by debris on the River Wear near Wearmouth Bridge.
SAR Spotlight On, SARSO Issue Four
The fourth issue of this new serial publication reviewed Combat SAR, MASH and CSH field hospitals, combat SAR helicopters and tilt rotor aircraft. The issue looked at the Race2Recovery and Walking With The Wounded teams of military battle casualties who were recovered, treated and rehabilitated to take part in demanding challenges on equal terms with uninjured comptetitors.
SAR Spotlight On, SARSO Issue Three
The third issue of this new serial publication reviewed the Royal National Lifeboat Institute beach-launched all-weather lifeboats and the introduction of the new Shannon Class ALB. This review includes the RNLI Headquarters and the new ALB factor that is being built on the Headquarters site. In addition a review of the Shannon Class and its launching system, the Mersey Class, which is being replaced by the Shannon, is reviewed together with its launching system. The first two Lifeboat stations to received the Shannon during 2013 are covered together with the Aldeburgh station that has yet to be listed to have its Mersey Class replaced by the Shannon.
