Lifesavers play at the AVIVA
Five crew from the Arranmore RNLI Lifeboat in County Donegal will make history on Tuesday 26th March. The crew, who are also members of the Arranmore Pipe band will play at the match between Ireland and Austria when they join their colleagues in the Pipe band to play at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin for the match between Ireland and Austria. The pipe band was invited to play by FAI CEO John Delaney, when he visited the Arranmore United soccer club last year and was entertained by the pipe band. The pipe band will herald the team on to the pitch, play the Irish National Anthem and will also play at the half time interval.
The lifeboat crew members Philip Mc Cauley, who is the mechanic on the lifeboat and plays the pipes will be joined by crew members: John Boyle, on drums, John Mc Cafferty and Anthony Proctor, standard bearers and Finbar Gallagher, band leader.
It is the first time that a pipe band from the island will play at the AVIVA and commenting on the visit to the stadium, crew member John Boyle said “It is a great honour to be asked to play at the Aviva and we will certainly take pride in doing so for the island and the lifeboat, to uphold the island tradition of pipe playing and saving lives”
