With all the rescues and searches this update got lost in the mix. Here it is!
On Saturday June 16, HETS team members, headed to Squamish to validate with Blackcomb Aviation. This training session is not only mandated by Transport Canada, but also serves to keep our HETS members current. In fact, the very next day, five of the members who participated in the validation were involved in a complex helicopter rescue on Crown Mountain.
This validation session involved a briefing with the chief pilot, a familiarization with the companies AS350B2, multiple tandem flight evolutions on the longline, and a debriefing. The validation process allows members to become familiar with the nuances of not only the different aircraft configurations, but also with the pilots preferences at different companies. A very well run session with some excellent learning opportunities.
