Almost on the stroke of Midnight on Friday 10th of February Largs lifeboat R A Wilson and her volunteer crew launched in response to a request from Clyde Coast Guard to attend Millport Bay on the Isle of Cumbrae, where, it was reported, a man had fallen into the water from his yacht.

Once again Weston RNLI Volunteers man the busiest Lifeboat station on the south Bristol Channel

The waters of the Bristol Channel are some of the most dangerous around the UK with very strong tides, shifting sand banks, large amounts of large commercial shipping and lots and lots of Mud! However the lifeboat stations around the Channel are there to keep it safe. The busiest such English station in 2011 was the Weston-super-Mare RNLI station on Birnbeck Island.

Eastbourne RNLI Lifeboat Station’s new £2.7 million Tamar lifeboat – which will be named Diamond Jubilee in honour of RNLI Patron, Her Majesty The Queen – took to the water for the very first time yesterday (Monday 6 February); 60 years to the day that The Queen ascended to throne. The new lifeboat will also be among the highlights of the Diamond Jubilee River Thames Pageant this summer.

2011 saw RNLI Baltimore lifeboats launch 22 times to a variety of callouts. 33 people were rescued over the course of the year by volunteer lifeboat crews who spent over 740 hours on service at sea. 7 of the shouts occurred during the hours of darkness.

Ramsgate RNLI’s all weather lifeboat, the 14m. Trent class EsmeAnderson, launched at 11.12pm yesterday (Saturday, 4th. February) to assist a sinking fishing boat in the Western Marina of Ramsgate Harbour – just as the night’s forecast heavy snow was starting to fall.
