The Nautical Institute learned with great sadness of the loss of life associated with the sinking of the Costa Concordia and expresses condolences to the bereaved families and sympathies to the injured and traumatised survivors. We congratulate the rescue agencies who continue to search for casualties in very difficult circumstances.

Just after 4pm on Sunday (22 January) Milford Haven Coastguard requested the launch of Tenby inshore RNLI lifeboat after a report was received that two people were trapped on rocks to the east of Waterwynch bay.

Both Whitby’s lifeboats work with pilot boat to assist disabled trawler

On Friday 20 January 2012, Whitby RNLI lifeboat station was contacted by the Harbour Master to discuss the weather conditions at the harbour mouth. The harbour office were expecting a disabled trawler, the Noronya, under tow by another trawler, the Keila. They were on passage from Stromness in the Orkney Islands for repairs at Whitby Parkol following mechanical failures on the Noronya.
