NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Members of North Shore Rescue had a busy Christmas. They were called out to Mount Seymour after a skier got stuck in the back country around 3:00 pm.

Tim Jones with North Shore Rescue says there were white-out conditions and high winds.

“The skier was in the back country, near the alpine trail, by the first peak of Seymour. He couldn’t figure his way out. Half the battle was keeping his friend at bay. He wanted to try to rescue him and that creates another dynamic when you have people within the friend community, trying to launch their own rescue.”

The skier is expected to be okay.

Jones says the guy didn’t go out of bounds and did the right thing by having a cell phone on him.

About a dozen members of North Shore Rescue helped with the search.
