Scarborough’s RNLI inshore lifeboat launched at 9.23am on 22 December 2011 following a request from Humber Coastguard to assist the Police and Local Coastguard teams who were searching for a missing male.

Two rescues in two days for Plymouth RNLI

The volunteer crew of the Plymouth all-weather lifeboat have assisted two fishing vessels in two days. While one vessel had engine problems, the other had become fouled in its own nets. Both were towed safely back to Plymouth.

West Kirby RNLI volunteers rescue stricken yacht

The West Kirby RNLI inshore lifeboat Dave and Trevor Jones was launched in bad weather at 6.10am this morning (Wednesday 21 December) to assist a sailing yacht Moon Dancer that was stranded on a sandbank on the River Dee near Thurstaston.

Whatever the weather or time of day or night, the RNLI’s 5,000 volunteer lifeboat crew members and shore helpers around the coasts of the UK and Ireland will be on call this Christmas, ready to leave partially-unwrapped presents or half-eaten turkey and stuffing, to launch the lifeboats and rescue anyone in trouble at sea.

Meanwhile, the rest of the fleet has headwinds to contend with that are likely to stay with them for the next few days.
