A message was received on Sunday evening (20 November) that the Newlyn crabber Kastel Paol had suffered gearbox failure some 15 or so miles north-northwest of Land’s End.
The Sennen Cove RNLI Tamar class lifeboat City of London III launched at 7.10pm to go to the assistance of the 60ft crabber. The lifeboat arrived with the casualty at 7.55pm, and a tow was commenced for Newlyn, arriving on Monday 21 November at 2am.
Being `between tides` for recovery at Sennen Cove, the lifeboat stayed in Newlyn until 5.15am and was recovered back at Sennen Cove up the launch slipway at 6 am.
