The Courtmacsherry RNLI Lifeboat was called out at 3.45 pm this afternoon (Tuesday 26 July 2011) to go to the aid of divers whose boat had got into difficulties 10 miles off the Old Head of Kinsale in West Cork. The divers were operating on the wreck of the Lusitania when their boat developed mechanical problems.
The lifeboat launched immediately with a crew of seven as did the Coast Guard Rescue 115 Helicopter. The lifeboat reached the casuality at 4.35 pm and recovered the divers onboard before towing the stricken vessel back to Courtmacsherry and arriving at 6pm.
Conditions at sea were described as windy but with good visibility.
